Tenerife South Reina Sofia Airport (TFS) is a busy facility from which flights arrive and depart to mainly international European destinations. Some domestic flights are handled by the airport, but the majority of flights to mainland Spain are managed by the island's second airport, Tenerife North Airport (TFN). The airport is owned and operated by Aena and it enjoys a reputation for efficiency.

The airport is situated around 60 km / 37 miles to the south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island's capital city. South Tenerife is easy to reach along the TF-1 motorway and currently serves approximately nine million passengers annually.

Public buses run to Playa de las Americas, Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz, travelling along five main routes, while private shuttle services provide pick-ups at Tenerife South Airport. Taxis running to all of the island's appealing resorts are available from outside the Arrivals Hall, with popular destinations including El Médano, Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes.

Tenerife's North Airport (Norte) was the island's only airport for many years, until during the early 1970s, it was decided to relocate some of it flights due to increasing foggy conditions. It was at this stage that construction of Reina Sofia Airport commenced, finally being completed in 1978, when it opened complete with control tower, long runway and passenger terminal. Since its opening, almost 200 million passengers have used the Tenerife South Airport to reach their destination.

There are three ATMs located in the terminal, as well as a bank with bureau de change facilities. Food and beverages are available at a good selection of outlets around Tenerife South Airport. Particularly popular is the Café Ritazza within the arrivals area, and the Insula Café, which stands in the main shopping centre. Both duty-free and duty-paid shopping is available, including perfumes, cosmetics and jewellery at outlets such as Dufry and also Tienda de Tripulaciones.

The Cleopatra Palace Hotel is less than a 30-minute drive from the airport and is well equipped to receive business visitors. Onsite, Tenerife South Airport does feature an exclusive VIP Lounge, which can be used for business purposes.

As the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is an island with 400 years of history.
